MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance) was entering its 25th year of delivering nourishment and improving health for AIDs and cancer patients in the Philadelphia region. Our challenge was to throw a 25th anniversary celebration that was fresh, thought changing and memorable.
Hired by the Event Strategy Group as co-producer, the celebration was hosted at the 23rd Street Armory, across the street from MANNA’s office building in Philadelphia. To bridge the gap between the office and the event, we tented the entire street and hosted a VIP cocktail party in the loading dock of the MANNA building, complete with a vodka bar in the nonprofit’s largest walk-in icebox.
We set up the Armory like a grand culinary tasting party with hors d’oeuvres and plated entrees from 8 of the area’s top chefs including members of Iron Chef Jose Garces and Marc Vetri. Every aspect of the event was specially curated, from the all-white flowers to the state of the art AV screens to the sound and sophisticated lighting. We even outfitted the armory ceiling with a platform for suspending aerial dancers during their performance.
